Careers at Godine

An equal opportunity employer

Seasonal Internships

Godine offers general internships designed to expose students and recent graduates to the full range of the operations of an independent publishing house. In addition to general office administration (mail, phones, etc.) interns work with our staff on a daily basis on tasks in all departments: editorial, publicity, marketing & sales, and production. Interns are hired for Fall, Spring, and Summer terms.

Sales and Marketing Internship

As a small independent book publisher, Sales and Marketing interns at Godine will receive a well-rounded publishing experience, gaining specific knowledge in how to market, promote, and publish books. We are a tiny team and therefore rely on our interns during their time here for various administrative and creative projects. Some of the responsibilities of our interns include creating social media posts for our multiple outlets, aiding the Sales and Marketing team on projects, researching (of all sorts), mailing marketing materials, writing and proofing.

  • Work well both collaboratively and independently
  • Know how to navigate and use social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Be comfortable speaking on the phone
  • Effectively manage multiple projects at once
  • Love books and book publishing!

Applicants must have two years of undergraduate work completed. We are looking for people with strong basic office skills (Word, Excel, FileMaker Pro) and good basic proofreading and editorial skills. Experience with graphic arts software (Quark, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) is welcome, but is not a prerequisite. We require a minimum commitment of 20 hours a week for 3-4 months. Internships are unpaid, class credit may be available.

Applications for summer internships should arrive no later than February 28. Applications for fall internships are due by July 15, and applications for spring should arrive by November 21. A writing sample is not necessary.
