Examines one hundred short essays on iconic children’s picture books from North American history and culture; features titles like Mo Willems’s Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus and Wanda Gag’s Millions of Cats. This four-color reference book focuses on the visual elements of each classic title within. In addition to the comprehensive list of time-honored books in chronological order, the work offers critical essays on the past, present, and future of illustrated children’s picture books.

Chris Loker is a bookseller, author, and children’s bookshop owner in San Francisco; she is an expert in children’s books and original book art from 1750 to 1950. She is also the curator of “One Hundred Books Famous in Children’s Literature,” an exhibition of landmark children’s books at the Grolier Club in New York City.
