Stephen Harvard

American, 1948 - 1988

Stephen Harvard studied graphic arts at Dartmouth University and engraving at the Plantin-Moretus Museum in Antwerp. After graduating from Dartmouth, he worked as a professional stonecutter and type designer and as a book designer, calligrapher, and illustrator at the Meriden-Stinehour Press. Several of his typefaces have been adapted for electronic typesetting by Adobe Systems. A posthumously-published catalog of his work received the American Library Association’s 1991 Leab Exhibition Catalog Award for Excellence.
