R. L. Trask

American-British, 1944 - 2004

Robert Lawrence “Larry” Trask was born in New York and earned his PhD in linguistics from the University of London. After teaching at several universities in the UK, he accepted a position at the University of Sussex, where he remained until his retirement. Within academic circles, Trask was best-known as an authority on the Basque language, but he also wrote extensively about the fundamentals of linguistics in an accessible, engaging style. His introductory texts are still widely read by beginning linguists and laypeople alike.
