Phillip Lopate

American, 1943 -

Phillip Lopate’s forty-year writing career has spanned every genre from poetry to film criticism to architectural theory. He has received a long list of writers’ fellowships from institutions including the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, New York Public Library, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is currently a Professor of Writing at Columbia University and has previously taught at Fordham University, Cooper Union, New York University, and The New School, among others.
