Alex Karmel was born in Manhattan and educated at Columbia University. His first novel, Mary Ann was made into the film Something Wild. His other works include Last Words, My Revolution, and Guillotine in the Wings. After living for a number of years in Washington, D.C., Mr. Karmel and his wife moved to France, where he died in 2015 at the age of 85.
