Stanley Morison

British, 1889 - 1967

Stanley Morison was one of the most important figures in twentieth-century typography. As a type design adviser to the Monotype Corporation, he commissioned typefaces including Times New Roman, Gill Sans, and Perpetua, as well as revivals of Bembo, Baskerville, Ehrhardt, and Bell. Morison was offered a knighthood and the Order of the British Empire in honor of his work, but he declined both.
